While most are still amped on the Transformers 2 blockbuster in theatres, this weekend will show two other contenders looking to dominate during the 4th of July weekend. The first is Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, the first 3D film to debut during the 4th of July weekend, and is the first family movie to debut during the 4th of July weekend in almost eight years. Box Office Showdown: 'Ice Age 3' vs. 'Public Enemies'
And then we have the feature for the adult audience, the Johnny Depp action/drama, 'Public Enemies,' released by Universal Pictures and also starring Christian Bale. Another milestone that will be accomplished by this film will be the first feature with an R-rating that will debut during the 4th of July weekend.
To me, this is akward timing to release such a dramatic centered film, but in the end, this is probably the most opportune time to release it to ensure the larger audience sees it, as well as to make top profit margins for the budget of the film. Check out the trailer below:
